Twenty Something Romance...

On 17th November, Up and coming singer/songwriter Ryan Redwood released his new EP 'Twenty Something Romance' - including four powerful songs.

Firstly, my general thoughts, it's lovely cover art, sometimes a simple but eyecatching photo is all you need, and this cover is exactly that.

If there is also another way to win me over, it's by including a dog in the photo, so bonus points for that.

Ryan is clearly a hard-working guy and that comes across from what I've seen on Twitter as well as listening to this EP, there is a lot of honest rawness coming from the tunes and this builds him a brilliant foundation to become successful at somepoint.

Let's get into it shall we?

First up on the EP is 'Everything':

It's a short but sweet track, however, the first thing that strikes me is the smooth vocals, which compliments the backing track.

Soft rock feel to it, especially the ending, all comes really nicely together.

Seems to tell a story of a young romance (think two young twenty-somethings, as per the EP title!), reminiscing - possibly in the middle of a break?

Which I pray to god for their sake is not the type of Ross and Rachel from F.R.I.E.N.D.S (If you know then you know).

In a way, it reminds me of a rockier REM guitar tune, think 'Losing My Religion' but with much different context!

This one actually already has a music video which you can watch here.

Next up, we have 'Are You Missing Me?'

On the track, he vocals are consistent with Everything.

The tune is softer - at the beginning - bit more guitar heavy around the chorus, but this does compliment the lyrics and vocals well.

Again, lyrics tell a story, this could possibly be a follow on of Everything? A potential concept album of love lost but asking for someone's perspective, this could be very relatable for a lot of people, something that hooks people.

This would also sound good on a movie soundtrack.

 Next up, we have 'Away':

This one is a bit more chorusey (Is that even a word?! - either way I'm rolling with it) There's not as many vocals, focuses on the tune a bit more, which I actually find a bit more relaxing.

Still carries on with the theme of love and relationships and the backing vocals really add to the song too.

I reckon this would be good to drive to.

And finally, 'If you need me':

Dubbed as a demo on Spotify, but what a demo it is!

More acoustic sounding but this is nice difference to the rest of the EP.

Another love song that is relatable but also isn't too heavy or goes in a certain emotional direction.

A very nice tune and I imagine it sounds good live.

End thoughts:

A well put together, lovely EP with relatable lyrics, a variety of tunes without being too different.

Good vocals and potential to go further, I'm really looking forward to seeing what Ryan comes up with next!

A solid 8/10 rating.
